Housing Alert October 23, 2026: President Trump Establishes Task Force on Manufactured Housing Innovation

President Trump signed an Executive Order on October 22, 2026, establishing a Task Force on Manufactured Housing Innovation to help lower housing costs and expand production.

Co-chaired by HUD and the Federal Housing Finance Agency, the task force must deliver recommendations within 180 days to:

Reduce regulatory duplication through coordinated federal certifications, inspections and approvals.
Remove barriers to modern manufacturing that increase costs or delay bringing homes to market.
Use federal financing and other programs to encourage innovation and increase manufactured housing production.

The task force will also evaluate how federal grants could encourage state and local adoption of standardized permitting and licensing for manufactured housing.

“President Trump’s Executive Order affirms that manufactured housing is central to addressing the nation’s housing supply challenges,” said MHI CEO Dr. Lesli Gooch. “The creation of the Task Force on Manufactured Housing Innovation establishes a dedicated federal effort to reduce regulatory barriers, encourage innovation and expand the supply of attainable homes.

“By targeting duplicative requirements and encouraging more consistent state and local permitting, this initiative has the potential to help manufacturers build homes more efficiently and expand homeownership opportunities. MHI appreciates the Administration’s leadership and looks forward to working with HUD, FHFA and the other participating agencies to translate these priorities into meaningful results for homebuyers.”
